YouTube Leanback meets The Nintendo Wii Remote (WiiMote)

www.AndroidReview.com Couch potatoes, unite in celebration! YouTube Leanback is YouTube’s new simplified interface that lets you surf videos using only 6 keys on your PC keyboard. But you don’t have to wait until YouTube Leanback reaches your TV set-top box to get a truly keyboard-free untethered experience. In this video I demonstrate WiiLeanback, a free software utility that lets you use your Nintendo Wii Remote (WiiMote) to control YouTube Leanback instead of a clunky old keyboard. Now you can sit back on your favorite living room couch and browse, play, pause videos at the touch of a WiiMote button.

@Soteriologist – The LEDs flash because I’m flashing them. I could just leave them on if users prefer it. I wouldn’t want to turn them all off because then the user would think the WiiMote is not on when it is. But I could see how the current behavior might confuse people since as you said, that’s what the Wii remote does when trying to sync with the console. I guess it comes down to whether or not leaving one or more LEDs on continuously burns more juice then flashing them.

@roschler That’s good to hear. But why do they stay on for 2 minutes during yoru video? Do you need to send the wiimote a signal to turn them off from your computer (sorta like the wii would?)

@Soteriologist – The LEDs flash because that is the Wii remote’s default behavior. Once it has been paired, which takes about 30 seconds to do, it stays paired (connected) until you power it off. It’s not trying to connect because it’s already connected. It’s simply showing you that it’s on and the current battery level as indicated by how many LEDs light up.

Too bad the LEDs constantly flash ont eh wiimote since it’s constantly trying to make a connection to the Wii (-_-). The searching/paging for the Wii connection added to the constant flashing of the LEDs probably kills batteries (not to mention is annoying). Cool project though dude. Congrats on the work/accomplishment.

Seems to be lacking some point, but interesting nonetheless
